Meikle Tòir "The Chinquapin One"

Meikle Tòir is produced at The GlenAllachie Distillery, where Billy Walker has set out to prove that Speyside can produce world-class peated whisky while retaining the region's naturally fruity character.
 
Unlike many peated whiskies that rely solely on medicinal smoke, Meikle Tòir uses mainland peat, creating a softer, sweeter smoke that complements rather than dominates the spirit. "The Chinquapin One" is matured before receiving a finish in Chinquapin oak casks. Chinquapin oak is an American species (Quercus muehlenbergii) that is rarely used in whisky maturation. Compared to traditional American oak, it imparts a distinctive combination of toasted nuts, sweet spices, caramel, baking spices and gentle herbal notes.
 
The result is an intriguing balance between orchard fruits, honey, vanilla and butterscotch, layered with fragrant wood smoke, toasted almonds, cinnamon and gentle pepper. Rather than competing with one another, the peat and the Chinquapin oak work together to create a whisky that feels both familiar and refreshingly different.
