In the Welsh Wind Brychan

Blended Welsh Malt | 46% ABV

Brychan, from the West Wales distillery In the Welsh Wind, isn't a single malt from one distillery. It's a blended Welsh malt, bringing together Welsh single malt whiskies from different sources. And that makes it rather special.

In fact, Brychan is described by its creators as the first blend of Welsh single malt whiskies to come to market. The whisky is inspired by the journey of the red kite, or brychan, soaring over the Welsh landscape. But there's another reason Brychan deserves your attention. It has already been making waves.

At the 2026 World Whiskies Awards, Brychan took home Gold, Category Winner and Country Winner for Best Welsh Blended Malt. Not bad for a first blended Welsh malt.

The blend brings together whiskies matured in bourbon, port and red wine casks, creating a profile that combines sweetness, fruit and oak.

On the nose

Honey and malt sit alongside chocolate, vanilla and red fruits.

There is a lovely soft, approachable quality here, with the wine casks contributing those fruity notes without completely dominating the underlying malt.

On the palate

Expect honey, chocolate, malt and red fruits, with warmth and spice developing as the whisky sits on the tongue. The World Whiskies Awards tasting notes highlight apple, pear and red berries alongside a warm, spicy palate and gentle oak.

The finish

Lingering, warm and gently drying, with red fruit and spice remaining after the sweetness has faded.
