Aber Falls Distillery is nestled near the famous Aber Falls waterfall in North Wales.

Aber Falls is part of the new generation of Welsh whisky producers and was the first whisky distillery in North Wales for more than a century. And this particular release takes a classic route.

Sherry cask maturation.

Sherry casks are one of whisky's great flavour tools, capable of bringing dried fruit, nuts, spice and rich sweetness to a spirit. The Limited Edition Sherry Cask from Aber Falls is bottled at 46% ABV and finished in sherry casks.

On the nose

Think raisins, citrus peel, creamy malt and toasted walnuts.

There's a lovely combination here between the fresh citrus character and the richer dried-fruit influence of the sherry cask.

On the palate

This is where the sherry influence really starts to show itself.

Malt loaf, raisins, prunes and dried figs combine with vanilla, cinder toffee and warming baking spices. It's richer than you might expect from such a relatively young Welsh whisky style, but there's still enough malt character underneath to stop the sherry becoming overpowering.

The finish

Warm spices linger alongside chewy dried-berry notes and oak.
