A peated Speyside single malt courtesy of Tomintoul distillery, Old Ballantruan takes its name from a natural water source, called the Ballantruan spring.  This peated whisky is quite different when compared to Islay posted malts, which tend to be more sea influenced in their flavour profile.
 
Tomintoul distillery was established in 1965, so this is a relatively young distillery. It's located near the village of Tomintoul, which is the highest village in the Highlands.
 
Nose: A touch of vanilla, liquorice, baking spices and plenty of peat smoke
Palate: Punchy and powerful, creamy, with big spicy and smoky flavours
Finish: Medium length with more smoke
